Everyone's in an uproar about Mel Gibson and his rant. No one seems to be asking why these conversations were taped or how they so conveniently surfaced just as the couple is breaking up. Obviously, just like Monica Lewinsky all those years ago, little miss Russia had an agenda.
Let's face it - no twenty-one year old woman gets involved with a fifty-something year old man strictly for love. This woman knew what she was doing when she got involved with Gibson and obviously right from the start had dollar-signs in her eyes.
What is truly troubling about the tapes being in the public domain, is that Gibson's right to privacy seems to have been thrown completely out the window and the entire world is trampling on it. If a person does not have the right to vent in his home, where does he have the right to vent? And shouldn't he expect that what happens in his home will stay in his home?
I am reminded of a verse in the Bible that says, "he who is without sin, let him throw the first stone." I wonder if the people who are loading their pockets thanks to Gibson's unfortunate actions, have bothered to look at themselves in the mirror and say honestly that they have not done the same thing.
I know people whose everyday work involves promoting diversity in the workplace, and some of the things that come out of their mouths would make very good copy indeed.
Further, we've all been angry to the point that we've said things that in retrospect made us shudder - so who are we to judge and criticize him?
I noticed that on the tapes Miss Russia's voice is very clear, and she is clearly goading him. His mistake is that he fell for it. This is what can happen when a mid-life crisis turns a man away from his family and into a situation that is clearly flawed from the onset.
That is why I want to commend Whoopie Godberg for standing up for him. yes, what he did was not admirable, but we should not be asking for his head because of it. And in today's world of political correctness, it takes real guts to shun the crowd of stone-throwers and stick up for a friend.
My suggestion to Gibson is to pay little Miss Russia, because let's face it, that's all she's interested in, find a good therapist, and leave the wolves to themselves.
